Top 5 questions buyers of oil presses ask before making a purchase

Before signing a contract for an oil press, every buyer goes through the same set of concerns: how much does it cost, when will it arrive, is this equipment a ‘pig in a poke’, and is the manufacturer even trustworthy? We’ve compiled the top 5 questions we’re asked most often about BRONTO presses — and honest answers to each of them.

1. What is the average cost of an oil press?

There is no single fixed price for an oil press — and this is standard practice for industrial equipment, rather than an attempt to ‘conceal’ the cost. The final price depends on:

  • the model and capacity — the BRONTO range of presses covers both single-stage hot pressing (OP-500, OP-1000 — for pre-processed raw materials), as well as two-stage cold pressing (the RP-500 → RP-1500 sequence, where the second press extracts the remaining oil from the oilcake after the first);
  • the raw materials for which the press is configured — soya, sunflower and rapeseed require different settings;
  • line configuration — a standalone press or a complete system with a heater, cake cooler and oil filtration;
  • delivery and installation terms in a specific country.

Therefore, the correct answer is as follows: the customer is provided with a personalised quote following a brief consultation regarding raw materials, desired output and production conditions. This takes just one phone call or email — and provides an exact figure rather than a rough ‘range’, which would be inaccurate anyway.

2. What is the delivery time for a BRONTO press?

The delivery time depends on the model and the production workload at the time of ordering. The main factors affecting delivery times are:

  • whether the model is in mass production (for example, the OP-500 is mass-produced) or requires additional customisation to suit the customer’s raw material specifications;
  • the order volume — a single press or a complete production line with ancillary equipment;
  • logistics to the destination country (for Nigeria and Ethiopia, this usually involves sea freight to a port followed by road transport).

The exact delivery date is always specified in the commercial quotation and the contract prior to payment — this is standard practice that protects both parties.

3. Are there any certificates of conformity?

Yes, and this is one of the key arguments in favour of BRONTO. The manufacturing plant has been in operation since 1967 and officially confirms the quality of its production:

ISO 9001:2015 certification — the quality management system covers the entire production process, including oil presses;

CE certificates for BRONTO equipment, confirming compliance with European safety standards.

Copies of the certificates are published on the website in the ‘Service’ section, whilst the current CE certificate for the specific press model the customer is interested in is provided upon direct request to the manager — the buyer can check the documents before signing the contract, rather than after the equipment has been installed.

4. Where can I view the production line?

There are several options here, and we usually recommend combining them:

  • videos from real-life sites — the BRONTO YouTube channel regularly features footage of presses in operation in various countries, including sites in Africa and Europe;
  • customer case studies — detailed descriptions of installations (for example, lines in Hungary or France) with specific results regarding oil yield;
  • a specialist’s visit to the customer’s site — the company offers the ‘Layout Solution’ service: a specialist visits, inspects the premises and prepares a layout sketch for the line tailored to the specific conditions even before the purchase;
  • visits to operational sites — if there is a client operating nearby, a visit can be arranged (relevant for representatives in Europe, Africa and Asia).

For customers from Nigeria and Ethiopia, the most practical first step is to watch video case studies of a specific press model and get in touch with a regional representative, and only then decide whether an in-person visit is necessary.

5. Why choose Bronto over Farmet?

The honest answer: you shouldn’t choose based on who’s ‘best at vacuum’, but rather on whose strengths best suit your project. With BRONTO, these are:

  • over 60 years’ experience in the industry and a track record of supplying equipment to over 20 countries worldwide, including representative offices in Africa (notably Nigeria, Kenya and Egypt);
  • the OP-1000 model, featuring an extended compression chamber and reduced energy consumption (around 22 kW per tonne of raw material per hour) for use in conjunction with an extruder;
  • flexibility to accommodate the customer’s raw materials — test runs using the customer’s own raw materials prior to purchase;
  • support throughout the entire cycle: from Layout Solution and commissioning to warranty and post-warranty servicing, including repair consultancy.
  • We use specialised materials and alloys for heat treatment and metalworking. We do not claim to be the only correct choice for any project — instead, we offer the buyer a calculation tailored to their specific raw material parameters, volumes and budget, so that comparisons are based on facts rather than marketing claims.
