How a soybean processing line works. The main stages of soybean processing.

Preparation of raw materials for processing

 

It is necessary to ensure

  • waste impurities: max 3%
  • soybean moisture: 8-9%

Extrusion

 

The beans are compressed, ground, mixed and heated to a temperature of 135-145 °C in a screw extruder.

There is a decrease in the activity of trypsin inhibitors in full-fat soybeans.

Transportation to the press

 

The process is carried out from the extruder to the press loading

The temperature of the extrudate is reduced to 95-105 °C, and also – controlled removal of moisture (evaporating).

Oil pressing

 

In the press, the raw material is compressed and moved by slow rotation of the screw shaft of the press (up to 22 revolutions per minute) along the seed chamber.

Soybean oil is extracted from the cake through the gaps (from 1 mm to 0.1 mm) between the slats of the seed chamber.

Oil separation

 

Mechanical pressing means that the resulting oil contains up to 3% of solid cake particles.

Up to 95% of these particles are removed in the oil separator.

Oil cake cooling

 

The cake comes out of the press at a temperature of 95-110 °C.

In order to prevent the protein in the cake from denaturing due to high temperature during storage in the pantry: atmospheric air is blown through the cake.

In the cooler, the temperature of the cake decreases. The product that comes out of it is: max 10 °C above the ambient temperature.

Technical specifications and basic requirements

The basic set of equipment is designed for stable, continuous operation in a 24/7 format. To deploy production, your site must meet the following parameters:

  • Productivity: 24 tons of soybeans per day.
  • Electrical power: the required limit of input power in the workshop is at least 145 kW.
  • Basic line composition: extruder, press, cooler, conveyors.

Requirements for production premises and warehouses

TM Bronto equipment is flexible in installation and can be successfully placed even in hangar-type premises (in particular, in light metal hangars) provided that several critical conditions are met:

  • Ceiling height: minimum 4.5 meters (required for installation of vertical line units and conveyors).
  • Temperature regime: in winter, the temperature in the room should not fall below +5°C.

 

Please note: Since the technological process involves the operation of an extruder and a press, the line itself, in continuous mode, emits a significant amount of heat, which requires its removal from the workshop. The workshop must be provided with exhaust ventilation.

Processing Economics: Why Raw Material Moisture is Your Money?

The most common mistake beginners make is trying to feed soybeans directly from the elevator into the press. For long-term storage in elevators, the basic norm is a humidity of 12%. However, the technology of effective pressing requires completely different conditions.

Let’s consider the difference in numbers:

Processing soybeans with 12% moisture content leads to technological losses: you lose about 40 kg of oil for every ton of raw material.

For a line with a capacity of 24 tons per day, this means a shortfall of almost 1 ton of finished oil every day. At the market price of a ton of soybean oil, this translates into huge financial losses every month.

Conclusion: To achieve maximum profitability, your property complex must have a dryer (or the ability to cooperate with drying complexes) to bring soybeans to the technological standard of 8%.

1. How is the cost of a turnkey line formed?

Each soybean processing plant is an individual project. Instead of typical solutions, we create a complex for the specific tasks of your business. For the line to work effectively, it is not enough to simply arrange the machines. We develop a layout solution that takes into account:

  • The features and geometry of your premises.
  • Optimal logistics: from loading raw materials to unloading finished cake.
  • Infrastructure for collecting, storing and shipping oil.

2. Premises requirements: production logistics.

To install only the main technological chain of equipment (provided that it is installed linearly in one row), you will need an area with the following minimum parameters:

  • Length: from 12 meters
  • Width: from 4 meters
  • Height: from 4.5 meters

However, to create a full-fledged processing complex, it is necessary to provide for accompanying zones:

  1. Raw material reception and storage: floor warehouses, dump pit, etc. Proper control of soybean supply is the basis for stable productivity.
  2.  

    Oil production: oil storage tanks (approximately 30 cubic meters, equivalent to the volume of a tanker truck).

  3.  

    Oil cake storage: a site for safe storage of finished products, designed for at least 5–6 days of continuous operation of the workshop.

3. Energy: installed capacity vs actual consumption

To connect a line of the specified capacity, the facility must receive at least 145 kW of allocated electrical power. The distribution of energy consumption is as follows:

  • The installed power of the electric motors of all the line units is about 117–125 kW (+ about 10 kW should be allocated for lighting and household needs of the workshop).
  • The actual current consumption during stable operation of the line is much lower and is approximately 60–70% of the installed nominal.

This is achieved due to the fact that after the equipment warms up and enters the operating technological mode, the load on the main working elements (extruders and presses) decreases, and the engines themselves operate in the most economical mode.

4. Work schedule: why is continuity important?

BRONTO complexes are designed for a continuous technological cycle. The optimal operating schedule: start on Monday morning – stop on Friday evening.

Daily starts and stops (for example, only during the day shift) are inefficient. The process of bringing the line to a given thermal regime takes time, and the first portions of raw materials have to be returned for a second round of processing. A continuous cycle significantly saves your energy resources and optimizes the quality of the finished product.

5. Personnel and level of automation

According to safety regulations, at least two people must be present in the area of ​​press and extrusion equipment.

However, the high level of automation of BRONTO systems allows to significantly optimize labor costs. After the equipment reaches a stable operating mode (it takes about two hours from the moment of start-up), one operator can easily control up to 7 parallel lines. The second employee can switch to warehouse or logistics processes at this time.
